What is Chiropractic For Dogs?

We all know dogs love to play, jump, run and are not shy of having fun! Sometimes (even minor) accidents like bashing into another dog, tripping over a tree, or repetitive movements, whether it’s highly trained agility dogs to simply playing fetch in the park or walking on the lead, can all have an impact on your dogs body.

Chiropractic care helps to restore and maintain optimal movement, so your dog can continue to do these things whilst avoiding any pain and compensatory patterns, and also preventing injuries from repetitive wear and tear.

If you’ve noticed any of following, your dog may benefit from chiropractic:

  • Behaviour change
  • Postural Change
  • Injury
  • Reluctance to jump, get on the sofa, in and out of cars, or climb stairs
  • Difficulty standing, laying or sitting
  • Altered tail or head carriage
  • Pain, stiffness or sensitivity to touch
  • Irregular or changed gait, limp or lameness
  • Arthritic or other age related changes
  • Continued licking/ scratching on a certain area

Equine Chiropractic

photo of a horseJust like humans our beloved pets can suffer from joint pains and stiffness due to dysfunction within the spine. Their nerves can become sensitive causing them pain when trying to enjoy daily activities and because they can’t speak the same language as us, they might show certain behaviours indicating that they need treatment.

Signs to look out for:

  • Intermittent lameness (especially in the hind limbs)
  • Favouring one leg or one side of the body when standing or walking.
  • Constant changing of positions especially straight after exercising.
  • Excessive licking or scratching at particular joints or areas of the body.

Chiropractic treatments help to restore optimal movement in the spine and other joints reducing the pain and stiffness and improving quality of life.

Want to Learn More?

It’s great to see chiropractic is being used more and more commonly alongside traditional veterinary medicine, as an additional therapy to treat biomechanical and musculoskeletal issues. Chiropractic can also assist medical care in pre and post operative cases, commonly elbow and hip dysplasia in dogs.

Ultimately, at 1st Chiropractic Centres we want to keep your dog as happy and healthy as possible!
